Curcuma longa

Tumeric is a member of the ginger family and is native to South East Asia. The rhizomes can be eaten raw or more commonly are boiled for several hours then baked in a hot oven till dried out. They are then ground into the orangey yellow powder commonly seen to spice curries and Asian dishes.
